From the desk of the CEO - March 2018

From the desk of our CEO Rachel Gillis:

Gilda Radner had it right.

Baby boomers remember Gilda Radner from Saturday Night Live. Her line that has stuck with me for almost 50 years is her infamous “Rosanna Danna, it’s something all the time” when she was speaking to Jane Curtain. Our youth must feel to them it’s something all the time. As a trainer for Youth Mental First Aid, I teach non-professionals how to recognize signs and symptoms of mental illness and how to respond to individuals in helpful ways. During that class students learn one in eight children is affected by an anxiety disorder. Eighty percent of children with a diagnosable anxiety disorder and sixty percent of students with a depression disorder are not getting treatment. In schools across the nation, anxiety has become the new learning disorder. What have we done to these kids? We owe them a better life between the morning and afternoon bells. We grown ups need to get our collective act together.
